Applications for a Concealed Weapon permit (CCW), must be submitted in person at the Detention Center located on the South side of the Courthouse on Madison Street.
We now offer our Concealed Weapons’ forms in an online editable PDF format. To access, edit and print, click on one of the links listed below.
- A new CCW permit requires: a completed application, a driver’s license, and a check for $65.00, non-refundable, made payable to Ravalli County Treasurer’s Office, a firearm safety certificate or Military DD-214 and fingerprint cards.
- A renewal CCW permit requires: a completed renewal application, current photo, driver’s license, a check for $35.00, non-refundable, made payable to Ravalli County Treasurer’s Office, and a current CCW permit. If the current CCW permit is even one (1) day over the expiration, the entire process must be started over as if applying for a new permit.
- Transfers from other Montana cities or towns and from states which Montana recognizes, need a completed transfer form, a copy of their unexpired CCW permit, and a copy of their Montana driver’s license. You do not have to renew your CCW permit until the expiration date on your current CCW permit. Ravalli County Sheriff's Office only recognizes and issues four year permits.
- Transfers from states not recognized by Montana will be treated as a new application; you must come in on a Wednesday between 12:00pm-2:00pm to be fingerprinted. You will only be charged the new application fee of $65.00, non-refundable.
*Due to the shortage of staff, the Sheriff’s Office will call you when your CCW permit is ready and you will be asked to make an appointment to pick it up.
